Buyer Focus: Sampling strategy / commercial planning

You Do Not Always Need to Sample Every SKU

A 30-SKU assortment does not automatically require 30 full samples. The better approach is to identify which combinations create the highest technical or commercial risk.

Representative sampling can reduce development cost while still testing the important variables.

High-Priority Sample Categories

  • Dark vs heavily processed blonde.
  • Shortest vs longest commercial length.
  • Straight vs curly or textured construction.
  • Standard lace vs premium lace option.
  • Most important cap construction.
  • Main custom color direction.
  • Primary packaging option.

Use Samples to Test Variables

Each sample should answer a specific question. A long blonde wig can test both processing and end quality. A curly sample can test texture stability. A premium lace unit can test hairline and parting construction.

Separate Product Samples From Packaging Samples

Product and packaging development can overlap, but not every packaging revision requires a full new wig sample. Manage the two approval streams separately where practical.

Create a Sample Approval Map

List which sample represents each key risk. This makes it clear which parts of the assortment have been validated and which remain untested.

Can one sample test multiple variables?

Yes, if the sample is deliberately selected for that purpose.

Should packaging samples be budgeted separately?

Yes, especially when custom boxes or materials are involved.
