Why Are 40-Inch Human Hair Wigs So Expensive? A Wholesale Cost Guide
A 40-inch wig quote cannot be evaluated simply by comparing the number on the length label. Buyers need to separate the length and availability of usable hair from construction, density, processing, quality controls and order requirements. This guide explains the major cost drivers without implying that every factory uses the same pricing formula.

Why a few extra inches can change the quotation
Moving from a commonly stocked length to an extra-long specification can narrow the pool of usable strands. A factory may need more sorting, longer sourcing lead time and greater loss allowance to achieve the agreed finished specification. The premium is not necessarily proportional to the difference between 36 and 40 inches.
Raw material availability and usable yield
Ask which hair origin and collection categories are offered, whether the hair is single-donor or mixed-donor, and how each category is selected and processed. Longer bundles may contain fewer strands capable of reaching the full declared length. Buyers should request a realistic description of short-hair content and end fullness rather than accepting an unsupported claim of “100% full length.”
Length, fullness and the end profile are separate variables
Two 40-inch wigs may look very different if the distribution of hair lengths varies. One may have a heavy, full finish at the ends, while another has a more tapered profile. Define the target with approved front, back and end-detail photos, measurable finished length and a documented tolerance.
How 250% density affects material use
A high-density target normally requires more hair and more ventilation or assembly work than a lower-density version of the same cap design, but density percentages are not a universally standardized weight measure. Request finished-unit weight, density reference images and a signed-off sample. A heavier wig is not automatically a better wig.
13×6 HD lace and construction costs
A 13×6 frontal provides a relatively broad parting area, while HD lace selection, knot treatment, hairline customization and assembly workmanship can influence quotation and wear performance. Ask exactly what is included; HD lace alone does not establish durability or finished quality.
Processing claims need evidence
A factory may describe its finishing technique as Vietnamese-style processing. That does not establish Vietnamese raw-hair origin. Claims about low tangling, smooth fall or long-lasting appearance should be tied to specified handling and repeat-use evaluations, not presented as absolute guarantees.
What to put in an RFQ
State length and measurement method; agreed end profile; fiber origin category; color; donor composition where known; processing disclosure; lace type and size; density target; cap size; unit weight target; sampling plan; packaging; order quantity and delivery market. Ask for sample footage showing the complete wig and its ends before accepting a mass-production quotation.

Frequently asked questions
Are all 40-inch wigs much more expensive than 36-inch wigs?
Not necessarily. Pricing depends on material availability, end fullness, cap construction, density, quality requirements and order size.
Does 250% density guarantee full ends?
No. Density and length distribution are different specifications. Approve an end-profile reference separately.
Does Vietnamese-style processing mean Vietnamese-origin hair?
No. Processing method and raw-material origin must be disclosed as separate attributes.
What is the best way to compare supplier prices?
Issue the same specification and request comparable sample evidence, finished weight, inspection criteria and quotation inclusions.
