36 vs 38 vs 40 Inch Wigs: Planning an Extra-Long Wholesale Collection
An extra-long wig collection should not automatically launch every available length. Retail positioning, capital tied up in inventory, lead times and evidence of actual customer demand determine the best mix. Use this guide to decide which lengths deserve samples and launch quantities; for measurement acceptance and end-fullness inspection, use the dedicated long-length sourcing guide.

Start with the customer promise
Define whether the range is designed for dramatic length, premium fullness, protective styling, stylist customization or photoshoot use. These use cases do not require the same construction or inventory approach.
36 inches: a useful long-length reference
A 36-inch prototype can establish the desired color, finish, cap feel, lace appearance and end profile. It is not automatically interchangeable with a 38- or 40-inch prototype: show customers exactly which reference each photo represents.
38 inches: test demand before scaling
A 38-inch option may provide a meaningful intermediate SKU, but it can also fragment demand across too many nearby lengths. Compare retail conversion expectations, factory availability and replacement lead time before giving it permanent inventory status.
40 inches: sell as a clearly specified premium offering
A 40-inch product should have clear visual evidence of its finished length and end look. Communicate when it is made to order and verify current capacity instead of advertising perpetual stock.
Avoid a three-length inventory trap
If the brand is new, trial one hero specification plus one alternative before committing to a three-length matrix. Track inquiries by length, texture, lace, density and price acceptance. Reorder from verified demand rather than assuming the longest length will sell best.
Create merchandising proof
Capture consistent back-view clips from the same camera angle, with stated mannequin dimensions or comparable setup and neutral lighting. Do not compare differently styled or stretched products as if the visual lengths were measured identically.
Build a selection matrix
Track length, cap, lace, density reference, end profile, hair material declaration, sample weight, lead-time range, quotation validity and approval status. Keep commercial cost calculations separate from unverifiable marketing claims.
Frequently asked questions
Should a new wig brand stock 36, 38 and 40 inches?
Not always. Test customer demand and supplier repeatability before expanding into adjacent SKUs.
Is a 40-inch wig always fuller than a 36-inch wig?
No. End fullness depends on hair-length distribution and specified construction.
Can one sample approve all three lengths?
No. Each length variant should have clearly documented differences and any material changes approved.
Should retailers advertise all lengths as ready to ship?
Only when live inventory and replenishment arrangements support that statement.
