Why Weight Is a Commercial Specification
Weight affects perceived fullness, salon planning, pack value and consistency. A buyer should know whether the quoted weight refers to net hair weight, total packed weight, per-weft weight, per-piece weight or another method.
Weight by Extension Method
Tape-in programs may be specified by piece count plus total net hair weight. Weft products are often specified by width and total weight. Keratin or tip products may be controlled by strand count and hair amount per bond.
Length Changes Fullness Per Gram
The same total weight spread over a longer length can look thinner through the ends. Long-length programs therefore need both weight control and visual end-fullness approval.
QC Checklist
- Define net versus gross weight.
- Confirm piece or strand count.
- Use calibrated scales.
- Check representative packs during production.
- Compare end fullness with approved sample.
- Record tolerance in the product specification.
Pack Weight and Strand Count: Define the Unit

A quoted pack weight is meaningful only when the unit and counting rule are clear. Record net hair weight separately from tabs, bonds, backing cards and retail packaging; agree how partial pieces or paired tape tabs are counted.
By Attachment System
- Tape-in: state the number of individual tabs or pre-paired sandwiches, plus the net hair weight per pack.
- Keratin and other tip systems: record the count of usable bonded strands, net hair weight and the agreed method for sampling grams per strand.
- Wefts: record net hair weight, weft width and number of pieces; compare cut edges and end fullness with the approved sample.
Sampling and Release Record
Choose representative sealed packs from each relevant SKU, count attachments, weigh under the agreed conditions and log the measured result against the product specification. Investigate discrepancies in weight and count independently. Any numerical tolerance or installation coverage is subject to final specification, sampling and project requirements.
Use the supplier comparison guide and extension inspection guide when evaluating multiple pack formats.

Request a QuoteFrequently Asked Questions
Is heavier always better?
No. Weight should fit the installation method, desired fullness and target price point.
Should packaging weight be included?
The specification should clearly state whether weight is net hair weight or total packed weight.
Why can two 100 g products look different?
Length, hair distribution, trimming and end fullness can change the visual result.
Should weight be checked during QC?
Yes, using the agreed method and tolerance.
